The auger worm gear was stripped on my Troybilt snowblower. I found a YouTube video explaining how to do the repair.

There is an excellent YouTube video showing how to do this repair. I also replaced the belts since I already had the snowblower split. As in any repair, pay close attention to how parts go together when you take things apart. I am not a pro by any means so I have learned to label parts, lay them out in order, and take pictures with my phone.

Removed housing from snow blower to gain access to bolt holding the worm shaft. removed worm assembly and disassembled. Removed blower fan from old worm shaft by drilling out pins. (drilling pins was the hardest part). Used rotary tool to grind high spots of shaft so I could remove the worm gear. Scraped and sanded sides of auger assembly to remove old silicone. Filled auger assembly with grease and installed new shaft and worm gear. Put auger assembly back together with silicone. Put blower fan on new shaft with pins and installed into housing. Attached housing to snowblower. Mounted belts.

Removed and disassembled auger and gearbox per your tube video. Carefully cleaned gearbox of brass gear filings. Checked output shaft to ensure it is not ruined. I ordered brass gear and seal which arrived quickly through ereplacement parts. Reassembled using EP00 grease. Fairly simple as long as you keep parts in order and saved a couple of hundred dollars.

    2. Removed augers / shaft.
    3. Removed gear (Was simple once I figured out it just tapped off).
    4. Reassembled the gear case and auger / shaft for install. This took a couple tries and was the most difficult part of the repair. It is a very tight fit and interesting with only two hands.
    5. Tightened all components and reinstalled plastic covers and chute.
    6. Pulled the rope and everything worked as normal.
