This is a genuine manufacturer approved replacement part designed for use with lawn mowers/tractors. This gasket provides a seal for the valve cover. Over time it will shrink, become brittle and crack allowing for leaks. At that time it should be replaced. It is made out of composite material and it is sold individually.

I removed the hood on the lawnmower for easy access.
Removed all the bolts securing the valve pan gasket.
Bumped the cover with handle of small hammer.
Cleaned the cover and all the area it mounts to, final cleaning with a little lacquer.
Took a good look at valve cover pan. Discovered that two of the bolt holes were bent in too far from over tightening from a previous install. Laid cover on flat surface and gently tapped the center of bolt holes to make flat.
Then I used 1 perm text (its brown). Small coat on valve area then installed gasket then spread lite coating on gasket. secured to mower snugging bolts.(Not real tight). I let the mower set for two days. (NO LEAKS) The gasket I used is made of cork not rubber.

Remove cover and clean surfaces. Apply a very thin coat of form a gasket cement to all surfaces and reinstall new gasket and valve pan cover. do not over tighten bolts for this will cause distortion of metal cover and gasket.

Remove top cowling to access the valve cover gasket. remove cover and old gasket. Clean both surfaces oil new gasket . install new gasket and tighten all bolts uniformly. run engine for 10 minutes then tighten bolts another turn.

Removed valve cover, replaced gasket, reinstalled valve cover. checked for leaks. (none). Then I removed the air cleaner cover, removed the old air cleaner and placed the new one in, then installed the air clean cover back on

2. Removed the gasket cover.
3. Cleaned the part where the new gasket goes.
4. Replaced the old gasket with the new gasket.

2) sprayed carb cleaner to remove all grime/dirt
3) removed valve cover and old gasket
4) after cleaning inside and all around valve cover, I applied gasket sealant then gasket on valve cover and inserted bolts
5) let dry overnight
6) reassemble

Cleaning your mower before starting this repair, will help you see any oil leaks after you change the gasket.I removed the valve cover. Cleaned mating surfaces. I put a 1/4 inch bead of black gasket sealer on the valve cover and installed new gasket. Pay attention to the bolt holes. I used one of the bolts to make sure the bolts would go through once cured. Wipe off excess sealant. I let it cure overnight , but read directions on the sealant you use. I then reinstalled the valve cover and torqued the bolts to factory specs. Make sure NOT to over tighten bolts. Make sure the oil is at proper levels and start motor and check for leaks.
