I removed all of the parts on my tractor to allow me to remove the closure plate on top of the engine. Removed the closure plate and found the broken ACR spring. Turned the engine by hand until the timing marks on the camshafts and crankshaft were lined up. Removed the exhaust camshaft, removed the broken ACR spring and replaced it with the new spring. Before I put the closure plate back on the top of the engine, I turned the engine by hand to ensure that the ACR was working, the exhaust valve was opening slightly on the top dead center stroke. At this point, I finished putting my garden tractor back together. Starts and runs great after the repair.

well it did not go as planned as the new seal leaked. I removed and got another seal and would you have it no luck and noticed that that the shaft and seal do not align correctly. this could be a bearing problem now and have to rethink the work or replace. as to the job if it would have been successful, was actually easy. watching how-to is the first step to give you an overview and recommend watching more than one person doing the job. you will find one that makes it easy for you and just listen to what they have to say. if you are attempting this you are already mechanically inclined so just do what makes you feel comfortable. work is easy and installment just as easy to do if you have the right tools. it would have been successful if the shaft was aligned.
