Questions & Answers

The starter assist spring located under hub becomes twisted out of shape after several pulls on the starter rope. Once the assist spring is twisted the starter will not rewind. Installed new assist spring and the problem reoccurred after three pulls on the starter rope. Can this problem be fixed?
Frank for model number Poulan PP3516 AVX asked on 2018-12-04
Hi Frank and thank you for your inquiry. It doesn't sound like the spring is installed right or something is preventing it from staying in place. Copy and paste the link below into your web browser. It is a video from our site on how to install these springs. They can be quite tricky to do. This video is for a chainsaw but it's all the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BI9wrIVZpQ Good luck with your repair.
Will I also need to replace the impulse pipe and the intake sleeve?
Deb for model number Husqvarna 142 chainsaw asked on 2019-10-16
Hi Deb, Thank you for your question. If the engine runs poorly or it starts and then quickly dies off, then you should replace the impulse pipe. The intake sleeve is designed to secure the air filter onto the chainsaw carburetor. If the air filter is not secure, replace it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
I have replaced the carburetor, air filter, spark plug, fuel filter and fuel line, will this part make it start?
Deb for model number Husqvarna 142 e series asked on 2019-10-15
Hello Deb, thank you for writing. Yes, you will want to consider this Starter Recoil Spring, part number 545008013, and the Carburetor Gasket, part number 530019172 for your model. Good luck with your repair!

The hub Eps spring would bend out of shape and not allow the cord to recoil back in saw.
I removed 4 screws holding the housing and removed the housing from the saw, then removed the screw holding the old pull start assembly and removed it. I placed the new recoil spring in the housing and then the cord hub, the eps spring and outer retainer that engages the flywheel. I found that the screw holding the assembly to the flywheel was too short. When tightened it would not allow the string to recoil. I put a small washer under the shoulder of the screw which allowed me to tighten the assembly and also allowing the string to recoil. The washer was not included in the kit or mentioned in the instructions, so you have to improvise. I made it by cutting a wire termination end which turned out to be the right size on the inside and outside. I had been dealing with this issue for some time and Poulan customer service gave me no help in resolving it.

    Challenge in replacing recoil spring!
The challenge is not having the recoil spring opening up for you. I was successful w/my installation of the recoil spring. This recoil spring from E- parts was economical to purchase and the product is a quality part one can purchase from E-parts. The ordering process w/E-Parts has been great. I have enjoyed working w/E- Parts for several years!
