Product Description ?

This is an OEM replacement part.
It has a left hand threaded screw to remove and attach it to the trimmer head.

Its purpose is to hold the spool with the cutting line, in the spool housing.
It also acts as the bumper to advance the line from the spool.

This is a well used and abused part of the trimmer.
It may be a good idea to order an extra one.

    Lent my trimmer to a family member ..... while attempting to replace trimmer line, he did not realize that the spool retainer was reverse - threaded and tried to turn the spool retainer counter clockwise until the red plastic housing was damaged. I had to grind away red plastic housing with grinder to expose the spool retainer bolt. Once the bolt was exposed, I removed it with socket and replaced it with the new spool retainer assembly. REMEMBER.... SOMETIMES BOLTS ARE REVERSE-THREADED.

    1. Remove the spool retainer and remove the head.
    2. Pull the string provided on the new string spool out evenly and place through the feed holes in the head.
    3. Insert the string spool into the head and replace the spool retainer.
    4. Wind the string in the direction indicated on the bottom of the spool by pushing down on the spool and rotating.
    5. Repeat the push and rotate in "steps" until the line is wound to normal operating length.

    I replaced the new string head adapter and then secured it with the spool retainer. It was easy. What I really liked about the website was the ease of finding the parts I needed. It was super user-friendly.

    The shaft adapter was broken because the spook retainer had seized in it.

    Had to cut off the spool retainer. Removed spool housing by sliding it off shaft adapter. Removed the shaft adapter using an adjustable wrench. Attached the new shaft adapter using wrench, slid housing back on to shaft adapter, screwed spool retainer into shaft adapter.

    1. Spool retainer plastic cap would not grip bolt to allow for removal of tangled spool.
    2. Removed damaged retainer cap from bolt.
    3. Removed left hand thread bolt and tangled spool.
    4. Installed new spool and new retainer bolt.
    5. Now have spare spool and retainer bolt (purchased two bolts) for quick repair next time.
