Solenoid did not work as it had sat for about 4 years without running gumming it up. Gas shot into carb flooding it out whenever I shut down the motor.
Remove old solenoid and screwed in new one.

What is the function of this solenoid???

Hello augg1932,

When the 699915 Fuel Solenoid is activated (when the engine is running) it will allow the float to bring fuel into the carburetor. When the engine is shut off this will stop the float from letting more fuel in.

Have gas to carb but won't start. Spray starting fluid, immediately starts, then dies. Can it be solenoid?

If solenoid plunger is frozen and not retracting (easy to check by removing and checking for free movement) then possibly it stops gas from entering carb. If solenoid gummed up, possible carb is doing same thing. Suggest remove carb and clean out, first put 12v to solenoid and see if it works (retracts plunger.) I found most times it's best to just start over: tank carb in Gunk Carburetor Cleaning fluid, then high pressure blow out passages (remove all plastic parts before tanking in Carb Cleaning fluid!) Reassemble carefully, laying all parts out on clear table for easy reassembly
Question: No Torque

randyirwin12

my mower was not starting well so i pulled off the carb and cleaned it using carb cleaned it. it made the gasket swell up. so i ordered a new one. put everything back together and it starts great but there is no torque or if i throttle up to fast it dies. i have now taken the carb off many times to check my work. but now i am wondering if the carb cleaner messed up the fuel solenoid to. Is there a way to check it. thanks

Remove solenoid (place same size screw loosely in bottom of carb bowl to stop gas) sit in seat, turn ignition on, and plunger should retract. If sticky, spray with brake cleaner to remove gum) then check again as above. If no retraction, then check if 12v getting to solenoid, if so, replace soleniod

If 12V is getting the solenoid and actuates it, it is fine Carb clener will not mess up the fuel solenoid.
