Remove broken screw and replace. The repair was easy enough to complete but the reason I submitted this form is to let people know of the excellent service from "ereplacementparts.com". these folks give prompt and courteous service and have very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend this supplier to anyone needing power tool parts.

    Cordless Drill

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    Less than 15 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Torx T-20, allen wrench

I removed the LH threaded chuck screw with a torx bit. Placed the short end of the largest allen wrench I could fit into the chuck and tightened the chuck. Put the drill in low speed and in the drill mode. Laid the drill on its side and hit the allen wrench with a mallet to remove it from the spindle. Removed the chuck from the spindle ,then threaded the new chuck on, then screwed the new chuck screw in, to hold the chuck on.

The chuck screw had become loose inside of the chuck. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten it. You may want to put on some Loctite blue on the threads to keep it tight in the spindle. The screw is a Torx T-20.

    Broken Chuck Spindle

    James - October 10, 2018
    Tool Type

    Electric Drill

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

Socket set, Micro Impact, Snap Ring Pliers, Bench Vise

    Removed front housing,
Used snap ring pliers to remove snap ring,
Used different sized sockets on bench vise to remove broken spindle and front housing bearing.
By using sockets to straddle spindle and slowly tightening vise it works like a manual press and spindle pushes out easily.
Bearing and spindle can then be installed using same idea.
