This authentic item is supplied directly from the original equipment manufacturer for use with chippers, shredders, and lawn mowers made by MTD, Troy-Bilt, and Yard Man. The pawl attaches to the ratchet pawl plate and is made of metal. If this part becomes broken it will need to be replaced and may require an allen wrench during the installation. This is available as an individual replacement part.

The rear drive wheels were really worn and the forward dive components on one wheel had failed

Christopher - February 3, 2024
A, Remove rear wheel yellow caps
B, Remove either wheel from axle
C, Remove ratchet mechanism, pawl plate and pawl
D, Attach new pawl and pawl plate to the new wheel, apply grease then install ratchet
E, Clean and re-grease drive shaft, install new wheel and components, bolt wheel to shaft.
F, Check for correct operation and lubrication quantity, if good reinstall yellow cap.
G, Repeat process with other drive wheel.
