You should just expect this to be a regular wear part. Maybe buy two. It gets a lot of abuse, and it\'s relatively cheap, and it\'s only a matter of time before it flies apart. Ours lasted 3 summers, and we have a very rocky \"lawn\". This plastic ball actually held up longer than the the steel one used to on the similar Ariens machine we used to have before this one GÇö that one was lucky to last just one season. The sleeve part that goes up above the cutter plate where the strings attach, is cracked too but it will work for now. I think if that breaks I\'ll be able to fix it with plastic pipe. All in all this has been a very friendly machine for us in our rugged marginal backwoods mowing situation.

Patience, remove ball assembly. Sand shaft and wd40. Slide off plate and finish sanding shaft. Lube shaft with never- seize compound and assembly. Changed the ball assembly but keep the old one for future replacement. Keep a record and model number. Always move the adjustment height up and down to prevent rust build up on the shaft. If it is stuck, find time to free it or it will get worse.
