Its purpose is to create an air tight seal for the carburetor air intake pipe. Over time gaskets will deteriorate and may crack eventually requiring a replacement. Tried to clean the old carb out. it was so gummed up and a new one was so Cheap I went that route and that was the solution. Mower runs great!! With a U-Tube video it's easy

I had to take off the cover,remove the muffler and remove the carburetor assembly. I replaced the carburetor intake gasket. Then I had to reconnect the carburetor linkage and attach the intake manifold. Put the muffler on then the cover. I’m happy to say it runs again. Thank You
