Spring was broken on drive cable
Removed cover plate and guide roller. disconnected old cable and hooked up the new spring and roller. Adjusted cable tightness and replaced cover plate. Test drive worked great. Now I'm using it again. It took 4 days for the replacement part to arrive. My snowblower is 16 years old and still works great. I'm happy with the replacement cable and ease of repair.

cable broke
propped up the snow blower, looked it over, the lower part of the cable fell off, used vise grip to hold the 1/8" threaded part near the top handle to unscrew it, loosen the plastic roller pulley with 1/2" wrench, oiled the threads, tightened it back up, greased and oiled all exposed parts. It was one of the easier snow blowers to work on .of the 100's I have worked on because I received the correct part.

broken spring on drive cable
Tip machine upright onto agar housing. Remove lower cover with 6 bolts attaching. Disconnect cable at handle grips. Attach spring from cable to control lever located under machine and proceed to connect cable at handle lever. Adjust cable slack with threaded piece. In a pinch, I would put another hook on the end of the old spring of the cable and connect it back. If you don't bend it properly, the lever on the clutch will not work quite right. Also once a spring breaks once, it is not long before it breaks off again. This is why I order the correct replacement part asap. I also think that while you have your machine apart it is good to replace other springs or cables that appear corroded. Take a look at belts too.
