  • What I needed for repair
What I needed for repair / re-conditioning of an older mower.

    Just what I needed
The part I ordered is what I needed but I ordered a spring that was not required as it was part of the gasket assembly. This was not obvious when I placed the order. I now have an extra spring. I have not installed the part yet but do believe it will correct my issues.

I refused to send my vintage 1979 R & S lawn mower, (a now defunct lawn mower manufacturer from Fort Worth), to that great "lawn and garden supply store in the sky". I repaired it so it can mow the lawn another season. I keep the oil changed regularly and keep the blade sharp and balanced. The most frequently replaced part is the carburetor diaphragm. Disassembling and cleaning the carburetor, then replacing the diaphragm was the major problem keeping it from running well. These ethanol-based fuels aren't helping things very much.

Removed the gas tank carburetor and then the carburetor and cleaned all. Replaced the Spring-Pump Diaphragm, Needle-Valve Kit, Diaphragm-Carburetor. Put all back together and reinstalled the gas tank carburetor. Took a little time to get the engine started, then adjust the speed and the engine runs with no more surging.
