The deflector assembly is mounted to the side of the mower deck for the grass clippings to be expelled out of. This is a genuine OEM sourced replacement part that is specially produced for use with Murray lawn mowers. This part is made from durable high quality plastic and it is sold individually, please note the hardware to secure it is sold separately.

    Broken grass deflector.

    The hat caps that hold the deflector on is the hardest part. A screwdriver, pliers, some patience and the hats will come off for you to reuse them. The part I received was exactly like the original.

    Removed guide pin cap, removed guide pin
    Installed new deflector
    Replaced guide pin and attached pin cap

    Blade spindle/washer on left blade was broken from hitting a rock. Discharge defector assembly was missing because a custom grass/leaf catcher had been installed

    Socket set, Wrench Set, Adjustable Wrench

    1. Used car floor jack to raise front of mower, putting wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
    2. Removed pulley cover on left side with wrench and removed belt around pulley. Used two adjustable wrenches (one on the pulley and the other on nut holding the blade to loosen and removed broken blade spindle and replaced.
    3. Replaced belt and belt cover and lowered and removed floor jack.
    4. After removing custom grass/leaf catcher, I attached the deflector hinge bracket using the carriage bolts.
    5. Set the deflector assembly in place and inserted the pivot rod, through the deflector assembly, the bracket into the spring.
    6. Attached two 3/8" axle nuts on either end of the pivot rod using an adjustable bar clamp to secure them.
