This is an authentic OEM part. The MTD deck engage cable is composed of metal and plastic parts, and has been designed for use in several tractor machines. This part is fastened onto the frame assembly. The deck engage cable works to move belt idler pulley and engage the cutting blades. Please refer to manual for specific repair instructions. A wrench and a screwdriver is helpful in making the replacement. This part is sold individually.

Hello Roy, Thank you for writing. First removed the battery to gain access upper cable mount. Take pictures of the cable routing as you go. Elevated the rear of mower to access lower cable mount. Next removed the old cable from the lower mount. Installed new cable to the lower mount. Routed new cable to the upper mount and removed old cable at upper mount, and installed new cable. Tested the cable and lowered mower back to ground and installed battery. We hope this helps!

Drove the rear wheels onto ramps, removed battery and battery supports. Removed clips holding the cable in place on the deck and frame. Removed 1 short bolt from engagement lever. Routed the new cable in place. Replaced clips and bolt. Replaced battery supports and battery. Fired it up and mowed the grass.

First you should raise rear tires 5 or 6 inches off ground. Be sure to chock front tires. Remove battery and battery brackets so you can access the engagement arm cable bolt. Also some side cutters to cut off plastic bracket located on frame. You will need a socket to get to cable bolt. Not hard just a lot of uncomfortable positions to access cable.

had to order new cable, troy-bilt pony 2014 uses a different cable then all other years, only year they changed cable. This cable included a new handle that has to be installed.

removed battery brackets
lower mower deck to lowest setting
removed cotter pin holding clip for cable on to mower deck.
removed clip holding cable to the side of the rear compartment
unscrewed bolt holding cable to the handle to engage mower blades.
Put a bungie cord around the pullie to hold while i put the spring end of cable back on it, Also to give me the room I needed to reattach the cable to the handle..
slide cable into bracket on mower deck and slid cotter pin into place to hold it.
ran the cable to rear of mower and then up to the rear connection point.
pushed it into bracket to hold it in place..
put the bolt into the eyelet of cable to attach back to the handle to engage blades.
this was a the part that took the longest due to have to work only through the battery compartment open, Working blind and in very small space was not easy.. Wish the rear part of mower would come off would have made it much easier to work on.
finally i was able to get the bolt into he hole, then used nut driver to tighten,
put brackets back in and set the battery on them.. reconnected the battery and started the engine to see if it worked.. it did, and ran fine the other day when I cut my lawn.
