The head has left hand threads. I put a small screwdriver into the hole and turned the head and unscrewed it. Then screwed on the new one.

Previous trimmer owner had changed the shaft to another model so I order the right trimmer head that went with the particular trimmer model and drilled the center hole 1/16" larger and installed it with no problems. It works great, I am very happy.
