It is recommended to replace the gasket when servicing the crankcase to ensure a good seal when the crankcase is reassembled. The gasket is sold individually.

Pliers, Socket set, Rubber mallet, seal puller
Parts Used
1. Remove blade
2. Removed 3 bolts holding motor from deck
3. Removed 6 bolts from crank case housing
4. Use rubber mallet to knock crank case cover.
5. Remove cover casefully.
6. Inspect speed governor.
7. Remove seal, and gasket from crank case / cover with a razor and plastic scraper (no
metal scrapers, wire brushes).
8. Clean out crank case
9. Replace seal and gasket.
10. Replace cover, ensure governor is in position.
10 torque crank case bolts to 90 inches pounds (7.5 foot pounds).
11. Reattach motor to deck
12. Reattach blade.
Let her rip.

I separated the two halves of the engine.
I removed the old gasket and cleaned everything with brake parts cleaner

2. Split the case.
3. Removed the crank shaft.
4. Straightened the crank shaft.
5. Put the engine back together.
6. Installed the engine on the lawn mower.
