Parts Used
Put snow thrower into proper position. Removed access cover. Removed one wheel from shaft. Removed nuts for bearing cover plates on both sides. Punched out two split pins. Grabbed the seized wheel and slid axle shaft out and at the same time sliding gear off and bearings and making sure not to lose wood ruff key. Checked fit of new shaft before final installation. Installed new shaft with new axle shaft bearings. Installed wood ruff key with gear and tapped in split pins and installed bearings cover plates. Thoroughly greases shaft before installing both wheels. Install access cover. This snow thrower gives you the option to have one wheel drive or two. One wheel drive allows me to turn the machine easier. Unfortunately it leaves a locking pin hole exposed to the elements. Water entered through this hole and eventually seized the shaft onto the wheel. It is not mentioned in the service manual but everyone should periodically remove the wheels and thoroughly grease the shaft to prevent this problem.
