This is an original Murray part manufactured for use with riding lawnmowers. The sector gear connects the drag links, and pivots along the pinion gear at the bottom of the steering post. This sector gear moves the drag links in direction the steering wheel is turned to move the front wheels in that direction. The metal sector gear is sold individually.

4. Removed the steering shaft bearing.
5. Installed the new shaft bearing (loose).
6. Installed the new gear sector (loose).
7. Installed the new pinion.
8. Tightened the mounting fasteners for the newly installed parts.
9. Reinstalled the cutting deck.
