First replaced forward and reverse belts by pushing the idler pulley to give slack to remove old belts and install new ones. Then removed old forward cable and installed new cable then adjusting new cable linkage with the nuts at the top of new cable. You have it right when you remove your hand from the forward lever the spring on the linkage brings the lever up and stops the forward motion.
