Blades would not dis-engage, engine had to be turned off and manually dis-engage.

I removed deck from mower so I could see moving parts better. I am 73 years young and laying on my side looking under mower was not my cup of tea. Upon removing deck I could see the results of 11 years of use. The parts were worn extremely bad and were hanging up and not releasing the Idler pulley when moving lever to dis-engage blades. I should have ordered 2 Arm assembly Pad Brake but as it turned out one was not worn as bad as the other. The job was relatively easy. Just removed spring tensions first and laid them aside. Proceeded to remove nuts from carriage bolt. Put new parts on and put deck under mower. Mowed an acre of grass and had no problems. On a parts quality note..... The Arm Assembly pad Brake has a bolt on end that has a roller on it that is used in the disengage mode. On the original arm it was a thru bolt with nylon lock nut. The new one is just pressed in and I think it should have been spot welded where it come thru the arm. Only time will tell. If a person has a welding machine I would highly recommend putting a spot weld there as that bolt at times will have a lot of pressure on it as it slides around the edge of idler arm.

The day before heading out of town on business the idler pulley seized up. I dropped the 54" mower deck and confirmed the problem. I ordered the parts which arrived the day I got home from my trip. The parts all went together as planned and with a new belt that I already had on hand I was back in business. I was happy I could "get cutting" sooner than later, especially the way my grass is growing this year. Thank you

Stationary idler pulley bearing failed (melted) and mower deck drive belt came off.

Ralph - June 24, 2018
1. Separated mower deck from lawn tractor and cleaned both units thoroughly.
2. Removed and replaced tractor mounted idler pulleys, since bearings were noisy.
3. Disassembled mower deck - opted to overhaul blade tower supports (3) to clean and renew lubrication. RECOMMEND REPLACING THESE PARTS AS A UNIT, instead of overhaul.
4. Bearing failure had caused hole in deck-mounted pivot support bracket for belt tensioner to become elongated - opted to do nothing at this time.
5. Replacement pulley on pivot support was not sized to accept 7/16" dia bolt!!! Hardened spacer washer hole was too small as well. Re purposed another bolt from the ordered parts, and added washers as necessary to allow pulley to track properly without binding against the tensioner arm.
6. Removed and replaced other pulleys and hardware (these replacement parts were identical to the removed ones).
7. Installed new belt as per diagram on belt slip cover.
8. Reinstalled mower deck underneath the lawn tractor.

Works great!
