Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Grea puller, small pry bar.

1. Remove gear box cover, belt drive cover, drive belt and pulley.
2. Remove retainer plate screws and retainer plate from outer end of worm gear shaft.
3. Remove worm gear shaft by gently prying outward on end of worm gear,
it is not necessisary to completely remove it from the housing, only just past engagement with transmission gear. It is helpful to have removed cutting blade as this allows lower wheel to turn freely.
4. Remove roll pin from transmission gear and pull gear from shaft. You may need a small gear puller. The new gear will not have the hole drilled
For the roll pin, you must properly index and drill the hole in the gear shank
Relative to the position of the woodruff key slot, this may be beyond the
ability of the home hobbyist but your local machine shop can do it for you.
5. Reassembly is reverse of disassembly, remember to properly grease the
Gear box, I recommend synthetic wheel bearing grease, and also recommend the use of anti seize on all fasteners.
