Questions & Answers for Starter Motor Assy

How do I test the starter Moter. Thank you
Ken for model number Honda217 asked on 2022-07-21
Hi Ken, Thank you for your question. Before, checking the starter motor assembly, Honda recommends checking the oil level first. If the oil level is fine then check the battery. You can check the battery with a multimeter. A fully charged 12 volt battery should have a reading between 12.7 to 12.9 volts. If you get a reading below 12.4 volts, you will need to replace the battery. If the battery is fine, check the connections of the fuse in the fuse box between the battery and the starter with a multimeter. You should receive a reading of 12 volts. If there are any signs of corrosion, it can be removed with vinegar. If the fuse and electrical connections are fine, check the starter. If you turn the start switch on and nothing happens, then you have a bad solenoid. If the starter makes a grinding or whirring noise or it starts to smoke, then it needs to be replaced. The noise may be the result of a worn starter gear or bearing. The smoke may be the result of overheating or it is using a lot of power. If you need help placing an order for starter motor assembly, customer service is open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!
