1. Remove 3 Post Screws on left L.S. Plate Assembly
2. Lift Plate slowly. The Worm and Worm Shield are not connected and will come out
3. Remove Click Sling Screw and lift Click Spring. You can now remove Idle Gear.
4. Assemble now in opposite order starting with Idle Gear.
5. You may have to play with Worm and W orm Shield, but donGÇÖt force or you may bend one of four nipples on Worm Cover.
6. Screw 3 Post Screws tight enough so that reel is sturdy enough to rotate Handle.
7. Important! Ensure tip on Line Guide sits in Slotted Post and moves freely from left to right and back without any hesitation. This will ensure fishing line is evenly distributed on Spool Assemble.
8. Lastly, if need be, adjust L.S. Bearing so that reel Handle can rotate without any friction.

Lucky for me it did break and we continued to fish the day out, but I brought it home disassembled the reel and found out the teeth of the gear had been broken, so I ordered the parts ( which I had done for several other Penn reels) they came in , and I repaired the reel and am waiting to try my luck again . Before starting, I used my cell phone to take a few pictures of how the reel is put together so I could see how it goes back together. Most of the pieces wonÆt fit right if installed wrong but the pics will help. Work on a clean flat surface with some sort of cloth to keep pieces from bouncing away if dropped. Like a towel.
Put a l ight coat of thin grease or oil on moving parts as it goes back together.
1.Removed screws around the side of the reel opposite the crank. There are two screws that are a different length. They go through the piece that holds the reel on the rod.
2.Removed the fish alarm (bow shaped piece from the inside of the cover by removing the screw.
3. Removed the screw holding the idler gear in place.
4. Installed idler gear and reinstalled the fish alarm making sure to line up the tabs on the alarm with the holes in the side cover.
5. Lifted the worm shaft along with the line guide and the worm cover paying close attention to how everything is oriented before taking it apart.
6. Remove the screw from the line guide and this will allow the pawl to back out of the groove in the worm shaft.
7.Replace the pawl an worm. It only goes one way. When installing it in the reel everything will be falling out and youÆll wish you had some extra hands. Be patient and leave everything loose and you can slowly bring it all together as you fit pieces in where they belong. After done the tip of the line guide should be in the slot of the bar next to it and the worm should not be easily visible. ( the cover should hide it). Tighten all the screws but donÆt go crazy and lube the lube points.
