This idler gear is supplied directly from the original equipment manufacturer. This plastic item is made for use with several Penn Levelwind Reels. The idler gear is fitted inside the l.s. plate assembly, balancing the speed with the worm gear. A screwdriver is required for the repair. The idler gear is sold individually. However, it is also included with the left side plate assembly (1182216).

The reel line winder had stopped working and jammed the handle, I had to force it to move and broke the teeth of gear -- also lost the fish.

Lucky for me it did break and we continued to fish the day out, but I brought it home disassembled the reel and found out the teeth of the gear had been broken, so I ordered the parts ( which I had done for several other Penn reels) they came in , and I repaired the reel and am waiting to try my luck again . Thanks eReplacementParts

1. Remove reel side plate.
2. Unscrew broken idler gear.
3. Install new gear.
4. Apply reel grease to gearset.
5. Re-install reel side plate.
6. Fish.

Worm gear was worn out and rusted, and gear had broken apart.

I removed both cover plates and replaced the broken parts. It was a little tricky putting it back together but not too bad. Works great now!

I just pulled the side plate and installed the new gear. The part was exactly the right part and went right in. I now have my reel back in perfect working order.
