This idler gear is supplied directly from the original equipment manufacturer. This plastic item is made for use with several Penn Levelwind Reels. The idler gear is fitted inside the l.s. plate assembly, balancing the speed with the worm gear. A screwdriver is required for the repair. The idler gear is sold individually. However, it is also included with the left side plate assembly (1182216).

Lucky for me it did break and we continued to fish the day out, but I brought it home disassembled the reel and found out the teeth of the gear had been broken, so I ordered the parts ( which I had done for several other Penn reels) they came in , and I repaired the reel and am waiting to try my luck again .
