I used a cut-off wheel to remove spool and line assembly since the metal drive nut on the lower shaft housing was rounded off inside of the spool cage. (this I did before I ordered the part) I then removed the old lower shaft and installed the new one I had purchased from ReplacementParts.com. It was an exact replacement for my original, and fit my MTD trimmer with no problem. I already had a line spool and bump knob on hand to complete the repair. The part arrived 1 day earlier than the estimated shipping time from ReplacementParts.com.

I simply took off the old shaft and replaced it with the replacement one, I did have to use another bolt, the old one wasn't long enough to hold the shaft. Once in place I installed the newer inner real, the old shaft was getting so hot it melted the one I had bought before, must of been a bearing problem. The trimmer is working better then when I bought it, thanks, you all rock.
