Failed to set brake properly before removing chainsaw cover

Read carefully the owner's manual procedure for removing cover BEFORE removing cover from chainsaw! Or, watch you tube video for proper procedure--it would have saved me from needing this replacement part. Not having done either, after prying the cover off to get at the actual chain saw, it became quite obvious that the cover was not going to back in place without some tool to reset the safety brake which had not been properly set before disassembly. Brute force was not the answer. Broke the plastic spring guide ( aka knee joint) in several attempts to force said spring back in place. Frustration led to you tube videos in what not to do and what one should do. Improvised sprocket to reset the brake and used the replacement knee joint to effect the repair. Took 20 minutes to make the tool, and five minutes to put the assembly back together.

    Chain brake broke

    Tool Type

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    Less than 15 minutes

    Tools Used

Removed the old parts and installed the new parts. Very easy job to complete.
The hardest part was putting the spring in place. To compress the spring , I used a medium sized flat screw driver and placed it in the end of the spring so it screw driver went part way in the spring and the wider part was able to push on the spring and with my other hand, hold down the rest of the spring and components and pop the spring in place.
