Strong suggestion for everyone: Get as much info and diagrams as you can before starting! Pay CLOSE attention to how it comes apart, take photos if possible.
1. I removed the drill chuck with a 1/4 " blade screwdriver. Caution; REVERSE thread screw.
2. removed 6 housing screws and 2 retainer clips inside battery compartment.
3. Separated housing.
4. Photographed the reversing switch assy, then removed same.
5. Photographed and removed the speed switch (lost one of the two springs)..used spring from ball-point pen as replacement.
6. Using needle-nose pliers, disconnected motor wires.
7. Lifted motor and gear set out as one unit. (Make sure the clocking tab is not broken).
8. Separated motor and gear set.
9. Installed new Drill chuck onto new gear set.
10. CAREFULLY tighten drill chuck (nose down) into a vice, then remove the protective plastic plate from the gear-set. MAKE SURE the plate is on TOP, otherwise you may lose the gears.
11. install motor into gear set. you may need to wiggle the motor a bit to align the gears, and a twist will seat the motor properly.
12. Clock the unit with clocking tab toward the speed selector switch (top)
13. replace the drill chuck, gear set and motor into the housing as one unit.
14. Replace the motor wiring and reversing switch.
15 Replace the speed control. (This alone took me 30 minutes using needle-nose and mag. glass). Be patient, you'll get it.
16. Replace housing HAND tighten the screws.
