Older Shimano round reels have a plastic handle nut retainer that cracks over time. This nut (with the accompanying metal lock ring) replaces the plastic part. Somewhat hard to find, but eReplacementParts had them in stock and at a reasonable price. Don't have to worry about handle nut coming loose due to a cracked plastic piece.
