This is a refrigerator garage heater kit that is used to add heat around the thermostat within a refrigerator located in a garage where temperatures reach as low as 34-degrees Fahrenheit. This is done to prevent the fridge from turning off prematurely. If the temperature within the garage is too cold, the thermostat may shut off the compressor of the fridge and cause the food to spoil, but this part tricks the thermostat into keeping the compressor on longer, keeping the food cold. This OEM kit features a single plastic and metal enclosure with an electric heating element that piggybacks off of the power source of the thermostat. Remove this heater during the warmer months or install a separately sold switch to control when this heater turns on and off. Since this is an electrical part it can fail, meaning it would need to be replaced immediately to prevent your refrigerator from turning off prematurely and your food from spoiling. To install this heater kit, you will need to turn your fridge off and unscrew and remove the thermostat from your fridge. Once the thermostat is removed, open the thermostat and using a set of pliers, remove the original power wires from the terminals and connect them to the garage heater kit wires so that both wires are connected. Once the wires are connected, install the open female end of each wire onto the male terminal end. With the wires connected, install the thermostat back into the refrigerator and reinstall the screws to the thermostat and turn the fridge on.
