Old friction ring deteriorated.
1. Unwind the drag dial.
2. Remove the spool.
3. Unwind the brass nut on the rotor and remove.
4. Then remove the old ring and replace it with the new.

Friction ring wore away
Removed spool and drag system. Slid on ring and tucked under tabs. Reassembled reel.

Reel was sticking during retrieving a crank bait.
I simply took the reel apart and replaced the worn parts. It was easy.

Worn rotor bearing and falling apart friction ring on one reel. Falling apart friction ring on another reel. Both Shimano.
Just followed the reel parts diagrams from Shimano...easy to understand. Parts that I ordered came quickly and were the right ones. Everything fit perfectly. Ready to go fishing.
