2) I removed the upper pulley (used an impact and it came off easy)
3) I removed the blade(also used my impact wrench
4) Removed the mandrel
5) Ihad to weld repair the mower deck where it had split ( this is why the mandrel broke one of the hold down bolts off)
6) I reinforced the bolt pattern with thick fender washers at the correct bolt pattern for the new mandrel and welded the washers in place
7) Ground off the welded areas to make them flush so the mandrel would not be in a bind when bolted back down
8) Repainted the deck before I installed all the new parts I ordered
9) Reinstalled the mower deck and adjusted the height to be level with the ground
10) Checked to make sure it worked correctly and went out and mowed the grass
11) All the parts were a perfect match to the ones I replaced and everything works as it should.
I work with my hands all the time and repair a lot of machines where I work. To me it was an easy fix prolly because of my experience. Your average homeowner might have a hard time fixing a mower deck if he or she doesn't have access to a welder which I needed in my situation. If there repair only requires a mandrel replacement because of a bad bearing it should be no problem for your average person to unbolt the broken pieces and replace them. Good luck and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty!
