The drum holder bracket broke

Joseph - August 24, 2016
Tool Type

Planer

Difficulty

Medium

Time

30-60 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Socket set

1. I disconnected the plug from the outlet and removed the base plate of the planer.
2. Removed the drive belt
3. Loosened the knives with a socket and removed the plate and guide securing the knives (blades).
4. Removed the 6 screws holding both sides of the planer body together.
5. Removed both brushes which rest against the armature. Do not attempt to pull out the armature and bracket holding the base for the knives. You could end up ruining your brushes.
6. Carefully separating the halves of the body, the base for the knives will be accessible and expose the rubber pin and the sealed bearing (my bearing was frozen)
6. I replaced the bearing and screwed in the new drum holder reusing the spring and movable plate.
7. Reassembling did not much take much time- the brushes going back against the armature are tricky- spring loaded but will go back in place with patience.
Good Luck!
