Product Description ?

This is a genuine manufacturer-sourced part which is made for Makita belt sanders. It is an identical replacement for a missing or a damaged driving roller that was installed on a new unit. The part supports and drives the sanding belt. Note, the tension roller is sold separately. Refer to the appropriate diagrams of your model for the correct repair procedure. One durable rubber roller is included. Note, the hardware to secure it is sold separately. A screwdriver and snap-ring pliers will be needed to perform this repair.

Screwdriver, Snap ring pliers

Clean the tool with compressed air so the loose dust doesn't enter the gearbox when opened.

1. Remove the drive belt and gearbox cover, remove snap ring on shaft end.
2. Pull out the old drive roller assembly, retain the inner washer for re-assembly.
3. Using high quality lubricant, grease shaft of new part, and put new assembly in place.
4. Replace drive gear, washer, and snap ring.
5. Clean out any old dried grease and re-supply gearbox with appropriate lubricant.
6. Reassemble gearbox cover, replace drive belt, and install belt shield.
It's a good idea to remove and re-grease the front idler roller shaft at the same time as the other repairs are done.

1. Removed side cover
2. Removed roller assembly
3. Replaced with new roller
4. Also replaced steel guide plate, cork backing pad and guide bracket with new parts

The rubber on the origional drive roller had dry rotted and was coming off in chunks

1, Unscrewed and removed the drive belt cover and the housing cover on the opposite side.
2, Removed the drive belt.
3, Removed the retaining clip and the washers on the old roller.
4, Installed the new roller, the washers and attached the retaining clip.
5, Packed in some new grease and reassembled.
6, Installed the new sanding belt and tested the tool.

Driving roller coating dry rot.

Removed belt housing cover, then spring clips. Removed gears then driving roller.
Greased roller shaft and added where needed.
Removed steel and cork plate, cleaned surfaces and reinstalled new units.
Lubricated all flexible sections of unit.
Sander is like brand new.

Bad drive roller

1 When ordering, you should include new retaining rings-12 and maybe cup washer (just in case they are bad ).
2. Remove belt cover and belt.
3. Using retaining ring pliers, remove retaining ring (if tension in ring is gone, replace ) .
4. Remove roller and make sure to check cup washer
5. Assemble parts in reverse order .

1. Unscrewed housing protecting drive pulleys and belt
2. Remove belt
3. Remove gear housing
4. Remove spring-ring
5. Remove drive-gear on drive-roller
6. Remove drive-roller from bearing assembly
7. Replace drive roller
8. Reverse directions 1-5 to re-install
