The starter drive assembly attaches to the starter motor and engages the engine flywheel to start the engine when the starter motor runs. The most common reason for replacing the starter drive kit is when the engine won’t start. This part included the shaft, gear, wave washer, spring and the starter cap. Here is a list of tools that are needed to replace the starter drive assembly 1/4 inch socket or nut driver, 3/8th-inch socket or nut driver, two small flat-head screwdrivers, 1/2 inch socket and wrench and pliers.
