2. Insert the new cable at both ends.
3. Use plastic ties to secure the cable to the handlebar near the bottom and the top.

Replaced cable with new one. Only reason it took over 2 hours is because length of replacement appeared to be too long. After extensive search on the Internet, I learned the end of the black covering of cable could be unscrewed slightly to decrease length. That allowed the cable to be installed easily (less than 15 minutes) and to function perfectly.
