Pushed balls down with small screwdriver to get bit out. pulled front rubber dust cap off. pulled e clips out. tricky without proper tool. removed Chuck sleeve. This was the problem. it was supposed to push ball plate down enough for balls to disengage the bit so it could be removed. Cleaned and lightly oiled. reassembled. Works great.
