Removed the cover, the bar and the chain, unscrewed the broken plastic brake handle. Screws were fine (which is good, they cost 4 dollars each). In the small gap, installed the catch and spring, but couldn't immediately tell which direction for them to sit.
Screwed in the plastic brake handle and checked if it would click and it did not. Unscrewed it and turned the catch one turn (it's a tiny rectangle). Then screwed on again and it caught and was thusly installed correctly. Clicked it back and forth a bit, installed the brake cover and screws to make sure the brake locked and unlocked and then put the saw back together.
