Drive assembly wouldn't engage

Front drive stopped. Found the spring on the cable end was broken with no way to replace. Purchased complete cable assy. Found no way to attach to "gearbox". Exploded diagrams don't demonstrate. No one at Sears could explain. Purchased new housing which had a tab with the hole needed. Installed and adjusted. Operational now. Mower had less than 200 hours. Recommend redesign or different material or protective shield.
