Instead of attempting to clean out the old carburetor I just ordered a new one. Replacing it was very straightforward and took me less than 15 minutes. After replacing the carburetor and the 2 gaskets, the generator fired up on the second pull and the job was complete. All generator operational checks were accomplished and the generator was put back into service.

Removed the fuel hose, the air breather, and the carburetor. Reinstalled with the new one. Reconnected and tested.

Empty the fuel tank or use a pair of tube clamp pliers, to stop the flow of fuel into the old carburetor. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Then remove the throttle linkage and spring. Remove the old carburetor, then install the new one. Replace the rest of the parts in reverse order.
