Split the plastic body by removing all screws. Check the electric motor for brush condition. Study it all carefully to see what type of brushes are needed. These brushes did not require a wire attached to the end of each. Clean the armature with emery cloth or very light sand paper.
Pull each spring ends up and push to the side with the pick so that the spring end rest on the side and out of the way. Drop in the brushes. Push the spring end back over the brush and opening.
Clean up any extra or old dirty grease. Reassemble. Try not to lose any screws. Plug in and hope it starts. Mine started fine but I'm not sure it's as good as a new one. I'll use it 'til it poops out, then buy new.

    Socket set

Removed Handle and Guard from hedge trimmer and removed all screws from hedge trimmer cover and removed cover completely.
Removed hedge trimmer cutting blade assembly! Observe how you remove it so that when you reinstall the assembly you will do it the right way!
Observe how the motor assembly is positioned into unit and then removed it completely in order to install the carbon brushes on to the rotor. The carbon brushes are held by a leaf spring which can be positioned ( with help of a spring hook) on the side of the carbon brush cage where the brush is inserted.Make sure you look at the brush before you install it so the curvature of the brush matches the rotor curvature of the rotor.
This is all there is to it! Reinstall all the parts in reverse order and you saved yourself the purchase of a new hedge trimmer.Good for another 100000 miles of hedge trimming!

Had to remove all screws and separate the housing. You will need a long security torx bit to remove these screws which I purchased at Harbor Freight Tools, works great. Lifted the electric motor out removed the old brushes and installed the the new brushes. Good time to clean out debris while trimmer is disassembled. Reassembly in reverse.
