This is an authentic Porter Cable replacement part. Brushes rub against the armature causing them to wear out. Worn brushes are commonly the cause of power tool malfunctions, and replacing the brushes can extend the life of a power tool. This brush comes with the holder, and requires a spring to supply tension against the armature. The spring is sold separately, and the brush with holder are sold individually.

First, I make sure the tool is unplugged. Then I removed the screws from both sides of the spindle sander and opened it up. Once it was open, I located the brush assembly. There was (1) screw on each brush. Pull the old ones off and put the new ones on.
