Product Description ?

This is an original part from MTD and Yard Machines for use with Snow Blowers. The auger drive cable connects the auger control lever on the control panel to the engagement lever in the auger drive system. The most common reason for replacing the cable is when it is broken, causing the snowblower to not properly pick up snow. This part is sold individually. The tool that you will need to replace the auger drive cable is a 3/8” socket.

Broken belts and cables not throwing the snow anywhere.

Tool Type

Snowblower

Difficulty

Easy

Time

15-30 minutes

Tools Used

Nutdriver, Needle nose pliers.

With the unit off and cold I removed the belt cover and slipped off the old belts. They were so bad I didn't need any tools. Both belts have spring loaded pulleys so to install the belts I slipped on the inside belt first and then the outer one. The cable had 2 hooks and a pulley. With the old cable broken I simply unhooked both ends. I re-hooked the end attached to the belt pulley and than ran the cable to the handle. The handle snaps in and out so I removed it and hooked on the cable, then snapped the handle back in.

Kinked and frayed clutch cable on Craftsman snowblower

John - February 21, 2022
Tool Type

Snowblower

Difficulty

Medium

Time

30-60 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Wrench Set, None

Removed plastic access cover by unscrewing one screw to allow access to clutch cable to transmission. Disconnected broken cable from transmission and from bracket on snowblower handle. Connected new cable to transmission and bracket on handle. Decided not to replace auger cable at this time as original is still in good condition. A little tricky to thread the cable through the hole in the snowblower body from the bottom but figured it out after a few tries.
