Product Description ?

This is a flat metal washer designed for use with various chainsaw models to enhance the secure fastening of the main drive sprocket within the chain drive. It is an authentic OEM washer meant to be positioned between the main drive sprocket and a securing screw, both available separately. Before making your purchase, it is advisable to contemplate replacing the corresponding screw when replacing this washer. This ensures that they wear uniformly, establishing a sturdy connection, particularly in equipment that experiences substantial vibrations during operation. If you observe wear on your main drive sprocket or encounter issues such as chain skipping or dislodging, contemplate replacing the hardware responsible for its fastening, including this washer, to fortify the entire drive assembly.

Removed housing and shield, cleaned up all the dirt and sawdust, pulled out old sprocket, and put on new one. It turned out the screw holding the old washer had not backed out but actually broke off. I used a drill and bit going forward to back out the remnants of the left-handed screw, put on the new washer, and installed the new screw. Easy-peasy.

chain kept coming off and I found that the washer and retaining ring had come off and gotten lost

, homemade installation tool for retaining ring

Most of the time was spent scraping and cleaning out the varnish-like crud under the sprocket so the sprocket would seat properly and I would have room to install the retainer ring. The double spiral retainer ring was too stiff to spread by hand so I had to drill out a piece of bar stock for a tool to hold it centered over the spindle and tap the bar stock with a hammer to knock it on.
