    Broken recoil spring and rope

    Set spring in place/installed rope in pulley/installed into spring and fastened. Wound pulley one rotation short of tight/fed rope threw housing into rubber handle and tied it off. Allowed pulley to unwind. Installed housing back onto saw

    Starter rope was hard to pull and when it did come out it wouldn't retract.

    Removed top cover. Then remove the worn parts. Removed the rope from the hand grip .Put the new pulley in place then the spring, put the rope in the pulley. Then wound the pulley and spring until I thought It was tight enough. Put the rope thru the housing and attached it to the hand grip. Tightened down cover and let the rope go slowly in

    Chain saw starter rope broke

    Removed pull start cover panel. (4) screws
    Unwound old rope, keeping in mind the direction it came off.
    Tied a knot in the end and heated it using a lighter.
    Pushed open end though hole in starter spring holder until knot on other end seated.
    Wound cord the direction I removed earlier.
    Ran open end through guide hole on cover and also throb handle.
    Pulled cord until it was toute and tied a knot on handle side.
    Melted end with a lighter.
    Replace pull starter cover (4) screws

    Starter puller was simply worn out and when I removed it of course the starter spring unwound. Starter rope worn but not broken

    Rewound spring in my hand rather than on saw. Installed spring and cover. Rope on pulley then reverse wound pulley to allow it to wind rope.

    Removed four screws securing the case.
    Removed Allen head screw to remove rope pull assembly.
    Replaced the parts and wrapped the new rope around the pulley.
    Threaded the rope through the eyelet on the case and wound the spring a couple more turns before inserting the rope through the handle and tying a knot. Replaced the case and four screws.
    Works perfect.
