Noisy when I put it in drive. Old shaft gear was badly worn

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Socket set, Adjustable Wrench, Lithium grease

Removed wheels and hex shaft. Cleaned friction wheel. Don't have ring pliers so was able to pry it open with a flat head screwdriver.
Installed the hex shaft. Use a little loctite on the mounting hardware. Applied spray lithium to the gears. Made sure no excess so it didn't drip. Spun the wheels. Nice and smoothe!!!
Installed bottom cover. Started it up .
Works great. Any other snowblower parts I need., I'll get them from you. Thanks again.

Snowblower is a 2003 Model Ryobi. It was making a loud grinding noise when I engaged the drive lever. Over time the hex shaft became worn where the sprocket touched the hex shaft.

Easiest method is to turn the unit on the cowl. Remove both wheels, remove the shaft hex by removing both nuts on the sides. Slide the friction gear unit off, place on the new shaft and replace in reverse order. Easiest repair possible.
