This metal part is available as an individual replacement. The ratchet return spring fits between the pinion gear and the pinion gear collar. It is a very small part that will need to be replaced if it becomes lost or broken. During installation, a wrench may be needed to replace the spring. This is a genuine Honda replacement part that is sourced from the original manufacturer for use with lawn mowers.
Removed transmission and control assembly. Replaced same. Used parts catalog pictures for reassembling. Pretty much straight forward. Appreciated timely and complete delivery of parts. Main delay was in assembling the new shift lever for handlebar.

End of drive axle shaft worn so ratchet wouldnGÇÖt engage
Cut axle shaft and pulled sawed off piece out.
Cut a new piece of axle rod.
Machined in 2 snap ring grooves woodruff key groove and spring hole.
Made a sleeve to slide over the pieces of axle complete with 6 set screws and divots into the shaft pieces.
Reassembled- works great.

I have been doing my own repairs for 5 years now and nothing goes wrong with it unless my employees neglect it in which they do because it\'s not theirs. E replacement parts generally gets my parts to me in a decent time frame that I can get these machines back up and running and into service.
