Genuine OEM replacement part, this item is sold individually. This spring is used on all of the trimmers listed below. It is installed between the inner reel and the outer spool assembly. Its purpose is to keep pressure on the Bump Head Knob Assembly.

Remove the wing nut or screws (depending on which style you have) from the old guard and replace it with the new one. Install the spring in the inner reel, then thread some line out of the upper housing, then push the inner reel and spring into the upper housing and thread on the bump head knob assembly.
Removed the bump knob, it was tight so I had to use a pair of pliers to loosen it. Then removed the trimmer line, then pulled the old spring out and then put the new one in by hand. Put the trimmer line back in and the bump knob back on. Tried the trimmer out to see if the line would advance and it did.
