We have 2 riding lawn mowers. One had an electrical issue that I felt needed to go to the repair shop for proper diagnostics. It was there for over 2 months only to have a switch replaced. They also rebuilt the front end, which we did not request.

So, When the 2nd mower threw a Belt, I thought simply replacing the belt was th e solution until I found the idler pulley missing. I immediately went to eReplacementParts.com, found my mower by manufacturer and model number, ordered the parts I needed and had them delivered within 5 days. Within 30 minutes after the parts were delivered, I had repaired the mower and went about mowing the yard. I needed no instruction, I simply looked at the parts schematic and could see exactly how it went together. Pulleys are not a challenge. Thanks eReplacementParts.com, looks like no more wasting time and money at the \"professional\" lawn mower shop. For most repairs, these guys have the solution!

Spindle and Idlers on mower deck needed replacement.

Michael from Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Total Repair Time:

Tools:

Remove old spindle and idlers with wrenches and socket set. Screws that secure spindle are self tapping, so take your time and make sure the new bolts cut a good thread in the spindle assembly. Secure the spindle with the four bolts, reattach the blade and tighten the bolt holding the blade to the spindle ( I used an impact wrench on the lowest torque setting). Reattach the new idlers proper side up (best to use your phone to take a picture of the whole deck before you disassemble anything) and any assembly you are not familiar with to make sure you get it right. Put the new belt on, reattach the deck to the mower and get to mowing grass! Online pictures of older mowers showing the entire assembly are hard to find. Take your time, take pictures, and do one thing at a time, don\'t tear the whole thing apart all at once. Use new 5/32 cotter pins (about 6-8) to finish it up right. Good Luck Mike

Stationary idler pulley bearing failed (melted) and mower deck drive belt came off.

Ralph from Lake Stevens, Washington

2 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
Difficult
Total Repair Time:
More than 2 hours
Tools:
Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set, Wrench (Adjustable), Wrench set
1. Separated mower deck from lawn tractor and cleaned both units thoroughly.
2. Removed and replaced tractor mounted idler pulleys, since bearings were noisy.
3. Disassembled mower deck - opted to overhaul blade tower supports (3) to clean and renew lubrication. RECOMMEND REPLACING THESE PARTS AS A UNIT, instead of overhaul.
4. Bearing failure had caused hole in deck-mounted pivot support bracket for belt tensioner to become elongated - opted to do nothing at this time.
5. Replacement pulley on pivot support was not sized to accept 7/16\" dia bolt!!! Hardened spacer washer hole was too small as well. Re purposed another bolt from the ordered parts, and added washers as necessary to allow pulley to track properly without binding against the tensioner arm.
6. Removed and replaced other pulleys and hardware (these replacement parts were identical to the removed ones).
7. Installed new belt as per diagram on belt slip cover.
8. Reinstalled mower deck underneath the lawn tractor.

Works great!
