Lawn mower protective rubber flap tore off

The flap slides onto the bottom rear of the deck and protects the user from objects that may be thrown from the mower while in operation. To replace the flap, I:
1. Turned mower over (it\'s electric, so no fluid leakage);
2. Removed screws holding one side of the rear axle to the deck (because the wheels are in the way when tr ying to slide off the old flap);
3. Levered the wheel on that side out of the way so I could slide off the old flap;
4. Used the hammer to pound off the old flap (because the flap is held on with an interference fit);
5. Used the hammer again to pound on the new flap;
6. Reattached the screws holding on the rear axle.

Replaced numerous replacement parts, front wheels had no rubber, flap was broken and blade was dull.

I first replaced the front wheels by removing cap on wheel, taking off flange that holds wheel on rod and put on new wheels and then reversed the process. To replace the flap the back wheels have to be removed first , take the old flap off, slide the new one on and replace the wheels just like on the front. The flange ( not sure that\'s w hat it is called) had to be pried off and used a mallet to put back on. Mine were rusty so used WD 40 to clean up. The blade was simple to replace . Remove a nut, put a new blade on and replace and tighten nut. I am a 69 year old woman so if I can do it, anyone can.

Mower blade needed replacing so did the rear flap.

Used adjustable wrench to take off the nut to remove old mower blade and install the new blade. I used a phillips screwdriver to loosen rear axle brackets to lower axle in order to replace rear flap. I was careful not to loosen the height adjustment parts on the right rear wheel. Needed a rubber mallet to loosen old torn flap to remove.

Removed the handle and removed the old grips. Sprayed the handle with soapy water and slid the grips in place. Then reattached the handle. Removed the cutting blade and replaced the fan and blade retainer. Removed the screws and brackets holding the rear wheels in place, pulled the rear wheels out of the way. Slid off the torn flap a nd slid the new flap in place. Returned the wheels to their original location and installed the screws and brackets to hold the wheels in place.

Mower would not start. It would run if I held down the switch and turned the blade by hand. I used a wooden stick not my hand though.

Replaced the brushes and cleaned the motor commutator. I also dressed it with some emery paper to present a smoother surface for the new brushes. Put it back together and it works like a charm. Glad getting the parts was so easy. The illustrations are very good and helpful too.

Removed wheels and slid old one off and slid new one on. There is a stop on one slde of the slot so it can only removed one way. If you find the stop and remove the wheel opposite the stop you only need to remove one wheel. I did not realize this situation and removed the wrong wheel first and thus had to remove both wheels. You also have to buy new push nuts since when you remove the wheel you destroy the push nut. Removing push nuts is not easy, I used a large long screw driver and was able to pry them off. Used socket set to push new push nut on.
