Product Description

?

This drag washer is a genuine OEM component which is made for use with Penn fishing reels. The purpose of this part is to provide a tight seal between components of the drag mechanism. If the fish pulls on the line hard enough, the reel will rotate backwards, letting the line out and preventing the line from breaking. Over time the drag washer will wear out and it may begin to fail eventually requiring a replacement. Check the diagram for your model to ensure the exact location and the correct application. You will need a screwdriver to take the reel apart when performing this repair. Note, this high-quality drag washer is made of durable metal and is sold individually.

I used the detailed exploded parts diagram of the reel from the site to see see how the parts are correctly stacked in the reel. I simply reassembled the parts as shown in the diagram and the drag worked. Just that easy, just that quick.

Drag system failure

Recently on a fishing trip the drag system for my Penn 9500ss reel failed. Once I opened up the reel I could see exactly what happened. Some of the teeth on the drag washer drive plate had sheared off so I did a complete replacement of the drag system on the spool. Everything went together rather easily. I would recommend anyone doing a r eplacement drag system on a Penn spinning reel before tightening up the drive plate, make sure the spool keyed washers align with the flat on the spool shaft before tightening. If they aren\'t aligned the spool will not seat all the way and the drag knob on top of the spool will not thread on. All in all I would say the repair went very easy.
